Gritty McDuff’s 30th Anniversary

Wharf Street Takeover

  • Gritty’s to celebrate the power of positive drinking for 30 years on Saturday, July 21st with an epic keg party on Wharf Street.
It’s our 30th anniversary!  We’re going to party inside and outside the pub on Wharf St. in the old port, Portland from noon until closing. We’re setting up a stage, our 17’ long copper-topped bar, eight taps and some grills on Wharf St. While inside the pub, we expect a full house.
  • There will be at least 8 different small batch or collaborative beers on tap. Including our rotating IPA and collaborative beers brewed with Allagash, Run of the Mill and Liquid Riot. While supplies last we’ll give away ‘burgers and ‘dogs.  FREE live music will include: country music star, Bob Emple from noon to 1pm; followed by the local band, Desperate Avikados between 2 and 4pm. Then OC and the Off Beats take the stage from 5 to 7pm. At 8pm Portland area favorite, King Memphis will wrap-up the music in-style on the Wharf St stage.
But wait, there’s more! At 10pm, eighties tribute band The Awesome will play inside the brew pub.
Everybody over 21 is invited to the party, no cover!

Small Batch & Collaboration Beers

Burton on Brussels
A collaboration brew with Allagash Brewing Co. in Portland, this beer was formulated by Ed Stebbins, Gritty’s brewmaster, and Allagash Brewmaster Jason Perkins, who began his professional career brewing at Gritty’s Portland and Freeport brewpubs. The idea behind this beer was to brew a session ale that shared flavors from both breweries. With this in mind, we brewed this beer with a grain bill made with local two-row malted barley from Blue Ox Malthouse in Lisbon Falls, a generous amount of torrified wheat and a touch of caramalt for color. For hops we used both imported East Kent Goldings & Fuggles hops from England, and finally the beer was fermented in our open fermenters with Allagash house yeast culture. The result is a lovely, balanced golden-hued ale, that finishes with a subtle hint of funk. When you taste it, there’s no doubt it’s a Gritty’s-Allagash child. 5% ABV.
Old Porter
For this collaboration brew, we took our “Old Port Porter” and aged it for two months in rum barrels provided by Liquid Riot in Portland. A bit nutty and slightly on the sweeter side, the Old Porter has a light body for a porter, but still holds a robust taste. And even though it comes in at only 5.5% ABV, the rum flavor in this dark, delicious beer ain’t subtle, folks.
Stevie’s Rye
We collaborated with Steve from Run of the Mill Brewery in Saco to make this tasty rye ale. We used an abundance of liberty hops, four types of caramel malt and 45 pounds of rye, resulting in a beer bearing the appearance of a brown ale and an ever-so-slight spice kick. Fun fact: Steve and our brewer Larry brewed together at Geary’s in Portland for 20 years. They reunited here at Gritty’s for this special collaboration brew! 5.6% ABV.
Dempsey’s Courage Ale
This golden pale ale is brewed with Northern Warrior and Goldings hops and comes in at 5% ABV – a nice, refreshing beer, perfect for chillin’ outside in the sun on Wharf Street! (And no, you won’t need courage to drink this ale, but enough of them may give you courage.)
