It’s time to HOWL at the moon! Halloween Ale is back!
The first batch of Gritty’s legendary Halloween Ale hits the shelves and goes on tap during mid-August. Check for it wherever better beers are sold! This robust brew has a deep amber color, a bold, malty palate and a well-rounded hop finish. The perfect beer for a crisp autumn day! Gritty’s is sponsoring this free event and the ‘Cumberland Crossing Bluegrass Band”, (one of our favorite local bands) will be playing there on stage. Later that evening they’ll be at Gritty’s. Be sure to stop by the Freeport Music Festival and head to Gritty’s between 7pm and 10pm to hear the best in all kinds of music!

On Saturday, July 12th the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter is hosting the
Eric Weinrich Charity Auction at Gritty McDuff’s Freeport Brew Pub!
The auction theme is “Making Memories” featuring gifts and experiences closely tied to the mission of the Association, providing attendees the opportunity to bid on items that may create or help preserve their own precious memories. We also look forward to the return guest appearance of local comedian Bob Marley, live music by the Calypso Cowboys, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and an overall great time! Doors open to the public at 5:00pm. Tickets are $50 per person.

Gritty’s and Moe?
Jam band, “Moe” is playing on the Maine State Pier Saturday and Sunday, July 11th & 12th and Gritty’s is the micro-brew being served in the beer garden. We’ll also have the Gritty’s Hot Air balloon team on hand to give tethered rides as we try to raise some cash for the Preble Street Resource Center. Don’t forget to stop by the pub either pre – or post- concert for a cold one.

Gritty’s to be the beer served at the “Up North Festival”
On August 8th, 9th & 10th the Ossipee Valley Fairgrounds in Hiram, Maine will be the site of the best concert of the summer: “The Up North Festival”. Featured bands include: Bob Weir & Rat Dog, Umphrey’s McGee, The Wailers, Assembly of Dust, and many, many other top jam bands. Of course, Gritty’s will be there too. So stop by the beer garden for an ice cold pint of Maine’s finest ale!

The decks at Gritty’s Freeport and L/A Brew Pubs are open and the best place in town to drink a pint while catch’n some rays. Down in Portland we also opened the Wharf Street Patio, so stop by any location to pull-up a chair on the deck or patio!

The Gritty’s Trek Team!
Gritty’s Bike Team just completed the Trek Across Maine, raising money for the American Lung Association of Maine during the Trek. Patrick, Jerry and the rest of our 16 person team wore Gritty bike jerseys as they rode their bikes across Maine and did us real proud! (<< Click image for larger version)

On Monday, June 30, Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland will be the site of one the summer’s best golf tourneys! Gritty McDuff’s and MGS (The Maine Gastroenterology Society) are teaming-up to produce “Gritty’s /MGS Invitational Golf Tourney.” This tourney will benefit the New England Chapter of The American Liver Foundation & New England Chapter of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation. So, take the day off to make this fundraiser a great success by playing golf and having plenty of fun! Pre-register NOW to hold your team’s spot.

• Names of the four golfers on your team (enter them on the next page)
• Their handicaps (It’s a scramble format, so golfers of all skill levels can play!)

Payment in full must be made in advance. After registering by e-mail, send a check in the amount of $500 to cover the team registration cost & a list of your golfers and their handicaps.

Small Batch Brew – Gritty’s Dunkel Lager

New Small Batch Brew - Rye PA
Brewer Ben Low’s latest small batch creation is Rye PA, a strong, deep amber ale made with 12% rye malt for a truly unique flavor. Here’s what Ben has to say about it:
“It’s got about 12% Rye Malt, which should give a really distinctive flavor. I’m expecting some pepper-like spiciness. It’s a pretty strong beer, finishing up somewhere around 6.3% ABV. It’s also a fairly hoppy beer, with a lot more late-addition aroma hops than we usually use. The aroma hops are Cascade and Saaz (the Cascade is to give it some American IPA flavor, the Saaz to complement the spiciness of the rye). It will also be dry-hopped in the conditioning tank with Cascade and Saaz.”
