  • Gritty’s Portland Brew Pub opened in 1988. It became Maine’s first brew pub since prohibition and a leader in the state’s craft brew revolution. Since then, locals and visitors from around the world have been enjoying fine, small-batch ales.  Gritty’s brews on-premise and serves great pub fare in an old world pub atmosphere.

    Our Fore Street location is in the heart of the historic district. Pull up a chair at our copper-topped bar. Strike up a conversation at our beer hall style tables. Take in the street life on the cobblestones of Wharf Street from our patio.

    Be sure to come to the Community Pint Night on Oct 12th to support Greater Portland Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
    They will be at Gritty’s in Portland from 5:30 to 9:30 pm raising money and awareness for the run/walk. The Volunteer Event Leadership Team will be selling calendar raffles and other “Making Strides” items while we donate 50¢ from every pint we sell to the cause.

    Every fall marks the return of our legendary Halloween Ale – the beer so good, it’s scary! No pumpkins are harmed in the brewing of this beer! This robust brew has a deep amber color, a bold, malty palate and a well-rounded hop finish. Halloween Ale is smooth and creamy with a medium-to-full body. It has a big malty flavor with toasted caramel balanced by ripe pear and faint apple undertones. The hops give it ample bitterness, but the beer finishes a bit sweet. The perfect beer for a crisp autumn day! 6% ABV

    Monster Mash is so big and scary we only brew it once a year. Coming in late October, just in time for Halloween!  
    In a world where beer has lost its way, in a time when beer is under attack from spices, herbs and pumpkins, one beer bravely stand above the rest.  Gritty’s “Monster Mash.” This double ESB is on tap for a limited time at all Gritty’s Brew Pubs. Ingredients: Marris Otter Barley, Crystal and Chocolate malts (all from the UK); East Kent Goldings, Whitbread Goldings Variety, Fuggles and US Goldings hops.  ABV: 7.3%.

    “Downeast SIPAH” is on tap at Gritty’s in Portland until about Indigenous People’s Day.
    Come try this small-batch, hoppy blonde ale in Portland before it’s gone! Made with Maine grown grain from Blue Ox Malt House in Lisbon, Maine & hops from Aroostook County, this Blonde Ale comes in at 4.5% ABV.  Hoppy up-front with a nice malty balance on the end. We used Centennial and Cascade hops, Maine Pale and Vienna Malts along with Maine grown oats.

    We’ll be serving the County Wet Hop Ale at all locations
    . “Wet hop beers” are an original style developed by North American brewers. What distinguishes a wet hop beer from a regular beer is the use of freshly harvested or ‘wet’ hops in the brewing process. Aroostook Hops in Westfield, ME picked ripened Centennial cones right off the vine, and then delivered them to our brewers the next day. The use of “fresh, ‘wet’ hops” imparts amazing and unique fruit aromas and flavors to the beer that you just can’t get from using traditional kiln dried hops. Each beer is considered a ‘one-off’, as there is no way of predicting to what extent the ‘wet’ hops will affect the flavor of each individual brew.  In addition to ‘wet’ Centennial hops, the barley in this beer is grown and malted by Buck Farms in Mapleton, ME, making the County Wet Hop a 100% locally sourced beer.

    . Have you ever noticed the hundreds of ceramic mugs hanging above our bar? Those mugs belong to Gritty’s Mug Club. Each member pays an annual $75 membership fee and in return they get to join our exclusive Mug Club. Each Mug Club Member gets their own ceramic mug. The mugs hold 21 ounces of our fine ale. Mug Club members pay just $2 for each mug of ale on Mug Club Nights and they earn points for discounts on food, ale and merchandise!
