Beers on Tap

Black Fly Stout

ABV: 5%

Black Fly Stout is an opaque black-colored brew with a cream-colored head. First there is a rush of mild roasted malt and subdued black currant fruitiness, then the roasted malt kicks things up a notch by unleashing an even burnt charcoal bitterness. Malt sweetness holds this brew together in the beginning, then the dryness sets in to make the mouth beg for more. Lingering suggestions of espresso and vague chocolate flavor make up the end. We use six different grains to brew this dark masterpiece and we balance the full palate with Oregon Willamette and Yakima Clusters hops. The Alström Brothers at Beer Advocate Magazine gave Gritty's Black Fly Stout a perfect 100 score and had this to say about our Stout: "One of the top stouts brewed in the US, very well balanced and is even more heavenly on nitro-tap. Certainly a stout lover's stout..."

Pub Style Pale Ale

ABV: 5%

"Original Pub Style captures what made people fell in love with craft brewing in the first place: a fresh, classic pale ale with plenty of hop character," says Brewmaster Ed Stebbins. Original Pub Style is a light copper-colored medium-bodied beer with a nice dry bite at the finish. A subtle combination of Cascade and Willamette hops give this ale a fine floral aroma and a slightly fruity undertone. The taste captures the freshness of a hand-crafted ale that goes right from the conditioning tank to your pint glass.

Brown Ale

4.7% ABV

It's amber color is a tried and true reminder of Gritty's energy (says 311). This ale at 4.7% ABV is a mild treat, and when finished will leave notes of toasted malt on the palate. Cheers!

Scottish Ale

6.1% ABV

It takes a brave beer to stand up to a Maine winter. Gritty McDuff 's Scottish Ale is returns every January to help you weather the season. Scottish Style Ale is our interpretation of the robust brews native to Scotland. Generous quantities of Pale malt along with Munich and Caramalts give this ale a deep and complex profile. Scottish Style Ale is just a shade darker than our Bitter, with a rich, slightly sweet first impression on the palate that rounds out to a satisfying maltiness and a medium-dry hop finish. At 6.1% ABV it's hearty but not overwhelming. Sure to please the Braveheart in all of us.

Downeast Sipa

5% ABV

The Downeast Sipa (if you're fancy) is our session IPA that features locally sourced and grown hops, barley, and oats. Feeling overwhelmed by all the high ABV beers this time of year? At 5% you can enjoy the holiday cheer without the holiday fear. Citrus flavors are key in this beer, and you can almost see it in its bright golden hue. Season's Gritty's!

Lover's Lager

4.7% ABV

Lover's Lager is quite a delicious lager that combines a complex grain bill to a traditional, but generous hop profile. Over 28 days of lagering, this special Valentine's brew is a delightfully crisp beer with notes of dark biscuits and Spanish marmalade.

Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express has Citra hops from the USA, Galaxy hops from Australia and Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand. All three have a very citrusy and tropical flavor. Brewer @larhudson used

Pub Style On Cask

Best Bitter on Cask

ABV 5%

Best Bitter was the first beer we brewed at our Portland brewpub. This true English classic has been the anchor of our draft selection ever since. Best Bitter is copper-colored, smooth and a little crisp with malty flavors of toasted grain and some residual sweetness that tastes a little caramel then fades to a slight hop bitterness. Make sure you don't drink this brew too cold; it will mask all of the true Bitter style flavors. We use Yakima Golding hop flowers when we brew this beer.

Guest Taps

Ricker's Cider

ABV: 5%

This modern American cider is made from a golden blend of dessert and bittersweet cider apples that we grow on our farm in Maine. Each bin of apples is carefully picked, pressed, fermented, blended, and packaged on the farm to yield a fruitful, balanced, and refreshing cider. We made it for you at Ricker Hill. GLUTEN FREE!

Willie's Superbrew Spiked Pom. Acai Seltzer

ABV: 5%

Willie's Superbrew is a hard seltzer blended with real fruit. It's gluten free and low in carbs and calories, like you'd expect from a seltzer, but it's blended with thousands of pounds of fruit and spices, never artificial or "natural" flavors, so there's no sacrifice on taste. Our flagship Ginger & Lemon has a nice ginger aroma, soft but notable ginger flavor without crazy spice, and finishes with a clean, crisp lemon finish. Only 120 calories, 8g of carbs!

Ricker's Maniac Gold Cider

Freedom's Edge Cider

ABV: 5.5%

Though Freedom's Edge is dryer than many hard ciders, we do sweeten ours a little with cryo-concentrated apple juice. (Cryo-concentrate is just a fancy way of saying we freeze some juice and allow it to melt.) The fruit sugar melts sooner than the water, which allows us to separate it off and use it as a natural sweetener. We then filter the cider, carbonate it, and we do add a small (but necessary) amount of sulfites to prevent spoilage.
