Portland Brew Pub

Christmas Ale Pint with red ribbon and greenery

  • Gritty’s Portland Brew Pub opened in 1988. It became Maine’s first brew pub since prohibition and a leader in the state’s craft brew revolution. Since then, locals and visitors from around the world have been enjoying fine, small-batch ales.  Gritty’s brews on-premise and serves great pub fare in an old world pub atmosphere.
  • Gritty’s Portland Brew Pub is the perfect place to experience the ambiance of Portland’s Old Port.
Our Fore Street location is in the heart of the historic district. Pull up a chair at our copper-topped bar. Strike up a conversation at our beer hall style tables. Take in the street life on the cobblestones of Wharf Street from our patio.
  • We’re open everyday and you’re always welcome. Gritty’s has become a Maine institution, garnering many awards for Best Bar, Best Brew Pub and Best Beer. Stop in, have a pint and see where the legend began.
  • Cheers!

    Fat Slice
    – Gritty’s Fat Slice DIPA is a blonde colored, cloudy & hop forward double IPA with an aroma & flavor of bitter orange & cantaloupe. The use of locally sourced barley & oats also gives this beer a pleasant, ‘bready’ body that holds up nicely against the aggressive hop flavors. This beer is top-fermented, wheat free & vegan. It’s a big beer!

You can’t put winter in a keg, but we may have come close! Our Abram’s Ale is a classic winter session ale. Abram’s Ale is brewed with imported English 2- Row Barley, Cara-malt, Munich, Chocolate and a touch of Roasted Barley. Then we hop it with two types of Goldings hops: East Kent & Styrian along with imported Fuggles whole hops from the UK. Gritty’s Abram’s Ale has an amber color with a light, well balanced flavor. In our Pubs we’ll offer this red ale on nitrogen to make it creamy smooth.  5.5% ABV on tap in late Thanksgiving at Gritty’s Portland.

Holy Donut Chocolate Porter! During Portland Beer Week back in November we sent some Black Fly Stout to the Holy Donut and they made some chocolate donuts with them that were delicious. Well, the bakers at the Holy Donut sent Gritty’s Portland 10 pounds of their donuts. We mashed them into the chocolate Porter we brewed! The donuts added a sweet rich flavor to the porter – Going on tap in late December or early in January, it’s perfect for the New Year’s holiday or to drink on those cold winter days.
